Our story

Safe-Routes4x was born out of tragedy and a vision for change. In May 2017, a devastating bus crash in Rwanda claimed the lives of mothers, fathers, and children in an instant. This tragedy exposed a deeper reality: the daily uncertainty millions face every time they travel, never knowing if they or their loved ones will arrive safely.

From that painful moment grew the determination to act. Our founder, Jean Felix TUYISINGIZE, committed himself to advancing road safety and transforming grief into purpose. After years of persistence in applications, he earned a scholarship to study in Belgium, where he completed a master’s degree in Road Safety in 2023. His expertise laid the foundation for what would become Safe-Routes4x. Today, Safe-Routes4x is a community-benefit company dedicated to saving lives through road safety education, advocacy, and infrastructure improvements. Working alongside educators, youth leaders, and communities, we are building a movement that promotes responsible road behaviour and fosters a safety culture.

Though our journey has just begun, momentum is growing. We are raising awareness in schools, training road users, leveraging digital platforms for advocacy, and building partnerships to create lasting impact. Our vision is clear: A Rwanda with zero traffic fatalities or severe injuries, and where safe, sustainable mobility is a right enjoyed by everyone.
